Genius Loci (2026)

Genius Loci is a short journal exploring water and the surrounding environment of Kwakoorillup Beela / Frankland River in Western Australia. Shot over the winter months (the Makuru season in Noongar culture), it includes short writings that contemplate mythology, perception, and our connection to nature.

I grew up in a culture where, as in many others, snakes are regarded as sacred spirits. My family often visited a shrine that revered mountains as sacred domains, embodied by a white serpent. When I first heard the Noongar story of the black snake in Kwakoorillup Beela / Frankland River, I felt a natural pull to the landscape. Experiencing the elements through changing weather and witnessing the river’s fleeting expressions reawakened my love for photography.
